A pattern starts to emerge for me in my reading of this book—at first I feel incredibly confused at what Proust is trying to describe, and then it suddenly clicks and I reread the previous passage with a sort of awe in revelation—this pattern is almost necessary for what Proust is trying to describe, which are very specific but universal psychological/spiritual observation. Incredibly impressive stuff.

I've read the first 35 pages twice, both times at a very slow pace (~2.5 pages a day. This is the kind of book that forces you to read slow, not because of difficultly in reading, but a hypnotic effect. The prose is meditative, affective and still yet incredibly belletristic. This is the longest novel ever written, it will take me years to read, but it's impossible for me to feel daunted, because it is so pleasant.
