I didn't like it at first. But the book definitely grew on me alongside my burgeoning awareness of its nuances. What does it mean to serve evil out of necessity? How long can one shirk off honor and morality? When does it become too much? For me, it doesn't take long at all. However, for a mercenary troop aptly named the Black Company, it takes many losses, many defeats, and many merciless victories.
