A far better intro to the Pacific War than a text-only resource. Grateful to learn what happened and where from a Japanese soldier, who weaves the “people’s history” and his personal experiences to illuminate Japan’s choices. Forgot Japan’s political undercurrents, and how early the Americans broke Japanese ciphers (PURPLE and Japanese naval codes). Still am not familiar with Japanese military personnel.
