What a delightful read this book is! I’ve long been enthralled by the Middle Ages and this book is a feast of new insights, a rich description of daily life, political forces (conflict does seem to be inherent in human interaction) and the various dynamics that helped shake the England of today.

I’m enthralled by this book which feels like a conversation between the authors and myself about life at a time when Europe was beginning to take shape in the social and political forms that we recognize today. The focus is on England and the influence of the Norse cultures on its formation (think Vikings and Danes).
