Started this thinking that the prose was absolutely awful. And it is incredibly bland and basic, but as the novel has progressed, I think show casing the absolute horrors in this novel, particularly the abattoir scene, in such a mechanical way with no emotion behind the writing might be more effective. I'd have to read the novel in better prose to make up my mind.
