Okay so the Witchlings think that the five families have something to do with the Black Moon ceremony and that they have somehow manipulated the magic, and I agree. It would explain how they haven't had any spares in their family line for a while and the earlier ceremony. The stars know that they are messing with it, so they asked to host it earlier.
