Maybe I remember the quality of this book wrong but the political intrigue is cool but gosh Talasyn is just….ao cringe. As a MC. I’m trying really hard because everyone’s talking the coolest and baddest of lines and here she is like, “perhaps that’s why I keep beating you in combat, because you’re old and slow.” Idk compared to the others, her dialogue is just. So bad.

While this book is soooooooooooo slow to get into (remnants of the fanfiction. I think a developmental edit to get the plot going faster would’ve served this book better tbh), I always go feral for a matriarchy where women-emperors are basically gods.
