Nine!! Still sick but that somehow clarifies to me how much I just don’t like Shuri. He has a political awakening that actually makes him a dictator instead, okay cool. Also I only just now realized their age gap. She’s still fifteen, folks. Literally fifteen. One more, can’t wait to see if someone kicks Shuri in the balls!

Seven!!!!! Wow! I hate that general guy! Genuinely the worst human being! Also the whale theme and having Tatara speak to his sister on the mountain was really beautiful. Also stop throwing Nagi off the trail, I need my blind medicine man! I love him! Also first volume without seeing Ageha’s face, I am bereft :(

Six! Okay Hayato (?? So sorry) is maybe the worst friend in existence — hello? Why is everyone believing this random guy? Yes, she should not be going out alone and should rely more on her trusted allies, but Tatara has continuously proved herself loyal and egalitarian. If Tatara is not trusting of him initially, the girls should get the picture!!

Fifth volume! I did in fact have a nightmare in which the hat man was a character from Basara - I don’t know who, but it was in the same style as Basara. Anyway, I am no longer trusting blond men either, maybe just the count.

Fourth DONE! Aegha, never change. Also all this talk about Tatara being like the Red King — get real, they are not the same. The inherent difference in power and the capacity to command more weaponry is so different. Plus, he’s bald now. (Bullying people with hair!)

Their volume done! Okay, Shido is trying really hard to be a fav, and the red king too — give it up. I liked ChaCha and the updates about the swords! Excited to see how they try to resolve all that, I have no clue.

Sorry but neither Shuri nor Shido can hot boy/sad life their way into my heart — people in positions of power have obligations to those over whom they exert their power (if any power should be exerted at all). Be nice and smart all you want, you kill people for a living, girl GO AWAY

In an effort to avoid my sisters ire, on goodreads I am going to count just the first volume when I intend to read the ten for bookclub — so every ten percent is one volume. The first volume is such an interesting mix of humor and horror — LOVE the art. I did not expect her taking on her brother’s role, but I’m here for it. I like that her mother will be somewhat involved, and that she knew it was Sasara

I think Sarasa is probably 16 by this point in the story. We don’t get any updates on her age again, but I went back and double checked Shuri’s age. Didn’t remember that the author gave us actual birthdays for some characters, and that Shuri and Sarasa’s birthdays are very close to one another and that they’re almost exactly two years apart. So if Shuri’s birthday passed, then Sarasa probably also had a birthday. Where are her fireworks from the European navy 😔? Her sweet 16 and she has to go to war.
