Augustine’s work on the nature of evil is foundational but seems hidden in modern day evangelicalism. Growing up Pentecostal, Evil was so emphasized within spiritual warfare that it has been hard for me to reconcile it with a good creator. While Augustine addresses the demonic, his evil has no “positive substance” but is the absence and corruption of all that is good, preserving God’s goodness in creation.

It’s so interesting to read old books and see that while society has advanced, we often haven’t progressed.
Marcus Varro separates Mythical, Natural, and Civil theologies in a way that still echos today.
The Mythical both within “entertainment church” and outside in the rise of new age spirituality. The Natural in philosophical agnosticism. The Civil as evangelicalism has become a voting block.
