Why is everyone full-named anytime someone thinks about a character (even if they’re thinking about themselves)? If I have to read another sentence starting with ‘Kate McTiernan…’ I might just DNF on the spot.

I love that when this was written 22 years ago Patterson thought it appropriate to give Duke University a Dean of Women (students, that is) who was a man (well-liked, but still), meanwhile I’ve just learned that Duke’s current Dean (of all students, as they apparently no longer need, if they ever really did, to give each gender their own Dean) is a woman.

Why are they talking about ‘sex’? No sex was happening, just a lot of raping and murdering. I feel like 2004 wasn’t that long ago in terms of the language used around sexual assault, that we weren’t using the word ‘sex’ when we meant ‘rape’, but maybe my memory is a bit too rose-tinted.
