There’s a greater plan in place from which Briony has been kept in the dark, hence why she’s been told, on two separate occasions, that Hearst Hall is “the safest place” for her. She has yet to be used as a heartspring, so Toven and the Hearst family clearly have ulterior motives for purchasing her and invoking Reighven’s debts to the family, to prevent his owning of Briony.
