As a long-standing student obsessive of the film, the book leaves me a tad ambivalent. Devouring the original source is satiating in its expansion of the characters, backstories and world.

The almost campy and playful tone throughout the book is fun and spooky, not nearly as harrowing and bleak as the film. In comparison I love the ambiguity Kubrick brought to this story, I appreciate its genius even more.
