I am in love with this novel so far. It is so nice and reassuringly human, rather than all this claptrap tech BS that is crowding out the rest of the news, of late, such as "the build out of AI server farms" and the like. To imagine that some people at some point enjoyed refined culture, and dress and dancing, and sophistication, well, it makes me feel so good to read, if only in a novel.

This book is immensely entertaining. The common theme for me with my Hemingway previous read is Spain, as "What We Become" is written in high style by a Spaniard, namely Arturo Perez-Reverte, and its characters are Spaniards, and there's a lot of ballroom dancing, including Tango, in it so far. It's definitely "John Le Carre meets Gabriel Garcia Marquez," as the Wall Street Journal mentioned in its review from 2016.
