I feel more than a bit sorry for Mr. Pin right now. He knows he's fouled up, made some terrible decisions that risk taking his life to places he wouldn't want to go, and needs to turn this around right now before it's too late... but he has no idea how to accomplish this in practice and there's no one around he could ask for real help. I can absolutely relate with that.

A-ha! A little clue on the villain's identity. I wonder if I'd caught it if I hadn't read this book before and as such known for a fact already anyway.

Knowing how Discworld works, William's notebook might end up with genuine magical force in it. Might already have.

Pin and Tulip are unusual antagonists. They're not portrayed as invincible or super-scary like most other villains, and instead come across as a little bit out-of-depth in Ankh-Morpork - and increasingly more so as more details are brought up. They almost feel like heroes, on a quest full of challenges and personal growth. Too bad the mission statement's a villainous one.

The gag that the century is almost over and the world's still stuck in the century before that... I wonder if Terry was thinking about all the times progress failed to stick in the setting before this one, such with movies and rock music. Finally, Medieval Stasis is about to break for good.
