I always have high hopes for her stories (I find the plotlines intriguing) and then end up disappointed by the actual telling; let me know what you think of this one?

I can understand this reaction. I've read four of her books now and loved two but only just liked the other two. McMahahon is not the most talented prose stylist in terms of writing horror. She's merely serviceable and this work out fine when the plot is good enough. I thought the Invited ended up being one of her better plots, but the middle does meander and repeat too much where the main characters are concerned, but I dig the ending. My favorite novel of hers is still The Drowning Kind. I love that one.
