Reading a Peter May book is like being in a car, teaching your kid to drive. Overall, it’s a productive experience, but there’s whiplash as the gears jam and momentum stalls when forward motion slams into a flashback chapter. Present day momentum, flashback lurch, again and again. Diminishes full enjoyment of good plots.
