STOPPPPPPP I KNOW ITS ACC HORRIBLE I remember falling down a rabbit hole of researching it and got so scared I THINK it’s mostly common in north, west and central africa as well as the middle east cause but I know it’s very prevalent in somalia it acc breaks my heart cause these poor girls think they’re doing the right thing by accepting what their family and community tells them claiming it’ll make them ‘pure’ but then they end up suffering from irregular periods and infections

omgg i remember in my first ever MUN training session the debate topic was about something similar to this and a girl said she had something like that done to her and we were all like 😧😧😧 that was so scary

OH GOSH yeah it’s crazy cause if they don’t get fgm in certain places they’re literally discriminated against and not allowed to participate in certain things and treated as children like cultural beliefs are so heavily entrenched in the practice that even if its outlawed people still find ways to do it ITS JUST SO SCARY I was esp disgusted when I heard one type consists of stitching the vulva closed for ‘male pleasure’ so when the woman gets married their husband can rip it apart I FEEL SICK JUST THINKING ABOUT IT
