I know this is hypocritical of me when I'll happily read Harlequin Presents, but in a more grounded contemporary I feel like having a hero say things like "if it's a fling you want, you'd better be damn sure you can handle it. Because when I'm done, you'll remember it for the rest of life" 100% kills the vibe bc we're not meant to think he's a huge fucking loser despite these lines
