Part three through the eyes of Hans Christian Andersen has me a little confused. How can this man who struggles with the English language have such an in-depth conversation with Mrs. Dickens, or understand the intricacies of a play he’s seeing for the first time? I’m distracted by this.

Part one from the eyes of the Dickens children is charming and lovely but a little sad. A comically disastrous trip to the zoo was the highlight of part two, but I’ll never think of Dickens the same ever again. Happily embarking on part three to see how Hans Christian Andersen experienced the same series of events.

Prose is a masterful writer. This story feels grounded and true but also like an understated Dickens novel. Some charming and funny moments. I’m struggling with the older man crushing on girls and would like that part to be over please.
