I feel torn on whether to continue with this book. On the one hand, I want to give it a fair chance and also not DNF another book but on the other I'm struggling with the very fast pace of the constant battles and bosses. I'd prefer more balanced pacing. I do worship at the altar of Princess Donut, though. She really makes this book for me.

Megan I think struggling with the pacing is a valid reason to DNF! The battle/boss aspect remains very dense throughout the entire series. (There is more friendship-building and community/alliance-building in the series but not as much in the first book, and I think the Public Relations / Media / What's Going On Outside the Dungeon also provides some breathing room from the battles but ramps up slowly over the course of the first couple of books. So, there is more variety of stuff happening outside the battles BUT I think the pacing does remain heavily weighted toward the battles/bosses.)

Thanks for the advice! I was curious what you thought. I think it's a cool book but maybe just not for me.

Megan I'm relieved you didn't mind the advice--I love the series and am delighted it's so popula, but I think it can be very love-or-hate (with its structure and with its humor in particular), especially the first book. But I'm glad you could pinpoint that you weren't enjoying the pacing, because that's something that's pretty consistent throughout the books.

Although I forgot to say in my first comment YESSS I'm glad you liked Princess Donut. Her character growth through the books is amazing.

Nic Oh I was hoping you would chime in actually haha! I guess I could have just messaged you but whatever. I really do get why it's popular. It's fun and interesting! But it's a very bold way of storytelling so I agree you either connect to it or you don't. I would still recommend it to people.

Princess Donut is amazing. I have a cat who basically has her same attitude so that made it extra fun. If I could just read her parts, I would.
