Finally, we’re at Audwynn and seen the terrible fates if those in the Cold Cellar — so far, the worldbuilding is absolutely fascinating, in terms of history and the politics (kind of like a chimera of the British and Chinese empires, with enough originality to stand on its own).

I’m loving Tain Hu, probably becoming one of my favourite characters and the scene of her discussing the religion of Wrydd and faith as a form of rebellion is deeply fascinating. And of course, Baru is wonderful in her contradictions as a conquered woman doing the bidding of the conquerers, in her own way of rebelling against the Masquerade.
