^The word patience is derived from the Latin word for suffering.^

^The connection is very close between the two parts of the command. “Wait on the Lord”—having to do with worship and attitude—“and keep his way”—dealing with walk and work. The outer life must be in harmony with the inner; the inner must be the inspiration and the strength for the outer.^

"We have waited for him; we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation."^

^Say this not only when you are alone, but say it to each other—the psalm speaks not of one but of God's people—"Our soul waiteth for the Lord: he is our help and our shield." Strengthen and encourage each other in the holy exercise of waiting, that each person may not only say of himself, but of his fellow believers,

^Wait on God as a living being, as the living God, who notices you and is longing to fill your every need.^
