i managed to read something else after finishing east of eden, but my willpower got me no further than that. i needed to be back in steinbeck’s world, back in his mind. and i would like to make note of the fact that merely a couple pages into this i felt—since finishing east of eden—like i was suddenly alive and back in the world again. and i started crying. i was jim halpert finding out pam is pregnant.
