Why is this book so hard to get through?? Anyone else have this problem?? And is the next book better?

I couldn't get through second book so I gave up on this series. One book to get through is OK if second is far more interesting like Plated Prisoner series but if 2nd or even 3rd book are not interesting enough for me then it is time move on I think :D
