“In The Boys From Brazil, Levin ups the ante by creating an antagonist who is not only a Nazi, but a real-life one — the death camp psycho doctor and twin-sewer-upper Josef Mengele. Mengele was still at large when the book came out in 1976, where he died free in 1979. Not fair. […] If we could not hunt him down in life, then Levin provided us the next best thing, we could hunt him down in fiction.”
