The book is three times longer than it should be, and it should be three times longer than it is. The space between and outside chapters implies some of the absolute best hard SF world building I’ve ever read — or would have read if she had actually written it down. And the plot would have been spectacular if she had actually written it. But all the good science fiction is left implied, and all we get is tedium.
