I wouldn’t classify this so much as mafia romance. It’s definitely more secret society-esque. The first 50% was steady paced and the story had plot. Once they start being intimate the plot seems to fizzle out and the characters seem to lose the substance that made them likable in the beginning—Imogen has lost her backbone and independence. I find myself not wanting to pick it back up.
