Woah. Janice sucks! This reminder that Margi is “only” a half sister to Katie is disgusting. Saying they are too close? She is only hurting her daughter with this behavior and it’s sad to see the change after Katie was born. After all of the fight of custody Margi must have felt so alone in a house where she wasn’t even given the respect of privacy. Just sad.

Today the book is holding up my interest. When I should be cleaning on my day off i continue to read so I can start new books that should be coming today. Today I think more deeply about the human experience and I am kinder to Margi. Today I think of my mother who participates in our own family silence. Perhaps I am critical of Margi in ways that she can remind me of myself and in ways we are very different.

“Mania as euphoric, ideas are far too fast like shooting stars. And then ‘the fast ideas are far too fast, and there are far too many; overwhelming confusion replaces clarity. You are…emerged totally in the blackest caves of the mind. You never knew those caves were there. It will never end, for madness carves its own reality.’” As someone in the MH field, this sticks with me for more than I can type.

Finding myself annoyed at the narrator. She’s clearly a rich girl who grew up with money and still has it.
Why are you referring to your dad and step mom the bride and groom when you just made it sound like you liked Janice? 😒

Not really getting sucked in this one. Power is out so i figured I’d get some reading time in but not holding my focus as much.
The author definitely has some mental health going on. Like her mother and her mother’s mother. With the trauma I get it. She speaks on the silence of her family as it is a bad thing and still you can hear the silence she too upholds. Including the photo of Peggy that sits in a drawer.

Slower than the last but mildly interesting. Beautiful illustration. Clearly an illustrated novel over a graphic novel which i didn’t realize going in. Interested to see where this goes.
