I think that the reason why Ellen is "mad" that Melissa is keeping her crush from her and leaving her out of her life is because Ellen is afraid of change. Change hasn't brought anything positive in her life, with her mom dying and Connie moving in. She wants things to stay the same with Xiumiao and Melissa because she's known them for a long time and they're her comfort zone. I don't think she's immature for that.
