Finally, a third of the way through, Blanche Ingram has been mentioned on page. She was the sole reason I decided to read this door-stopper of a book again; high-school-me loved her. Let’s see if that ages well.

This is the book that never ends. All I want is for it to end and with Jane and Rochester apart. How can one root for them together? Charlotte, I hope and beg this was not your intention. If it was, then was the whole split-tree symbolism a throw-away or, worse, a red herring? This is one of those books that almost bores to tears but is so long that you're forced to invest and it makes you hate your life. Goodnight.

Two-thirds of the way through it FINALLY gets interesting.
Blanche update: besides her name, I'm not sure why teenaged me was so fond of this so-far one-dimensional character. Perhaps, the last third of the book will answer this... Perhaps, it really was just Blanche Ingram name envy.
