Audiobook. Listened to this in early 2006 after my return from Tasmania. Liked it a lot. Don't remember much and without the recent memory, it's merely a history about a random place on Earth with some personal relation of the author weaved in. Nice but nothing more.

The first part is focused on Anthony Fenn Kemp and the European settlers coming to Tasmania from 1800 onwards. The second part takes a closer look at the aborigines of Tasmania, the last of whom according to Shakespeare's narration died in 1876. A woman named Truganini. With them, their language and culture died. Nowadays, descendants of mixed origing claim the aboriginal heritage, some being only 1/32nd aboriginal.
