In a book so far mostly about early 20th century chinese political movements and the thought behind them, the lack of dialectical materialist and marxist analysis is extremely concerning. The ideological battle that is presented often seems irrelevant, handled in concepts that are presented uncritically when there should be more discussion of why certain ifeas failed, etc, all sucks.
