The narration starts bold and simple. Direct. At first it’s unique and fresh, and highlights the reality of a maturing privileged white person’s experience growing up in an apartheid world, but the narration’s sharpness grows cold with the repetitive scenes. The story moves slowly and the mc’s deliberate attention grabbers (wait until this happens) and (that was before) grow annoying and manipulative.
