Continues to be interesting with speculation if Arthur Conan Doyle got the inspiration for The Hound of the Baskerville's from the Welsh borderlands or not. The snooty Baker Street League of Doyle scholars says poppycock! But there's some strong evidence....

This is actually based on a real legend about real historical figures, with scenes happening at actual places in the Welsh-English borderlands. Very educational!

I hope so, too! I absolutely love Black Vaughan, the ghost that haunts Hegest Castle and is master of the Hound. Gave me an idea for a not-terribly-original-but-still-fun ghost story idea. So just for that worth the read!

and you writing "master of the Hound", makes me think to Gwyn ap Nudd too... tho i think he's more master/god of the (wild) hunt... but maybe he has a (otherworldly) hound (i can't remember fasure) :)
I've a pile of notes for about half a dozen Merrily Watkins novels, and need to tidy them up into reviews when I've got the focus to do that without muddling them up ;)
