It took me a long time to read, and the story was slow with lots of description of action and nature. But, the patience felt appropriate, just like the protagonist needed to wait and let a story be told. It made me reflect on how quickly we want things to happen or to be shared, and reminded me that those things don’t come on my timeline. I grew a deeper appreciation for Wagamese’s writing style and messages.

The descriptive passages are much more complex than they are in Indian Horse. The story is staying with me during the day, so I wish I had more time right now to read it. Wagamese’s writing is truly beautiful, though I’m waiting to connect more to the characters.
