Surreal. Colin cuts his eyelids into form, his pimples withdraw from exposure to the mirror light. For a dinner, the table is decorated with vessels containing chicken embryos performing a dance and in the cutlery ladybugs are embedded. A pianocktail is played to mix cocktails depending on the song.

A chapter is only two or three pages long. Each one of them is an image Vian is drawing. An excess like a Brueghel painting at a lecture of Jean Sol Partre (Sartre). A walk through the gutter when visiting a doctor. A mad scientist's laboratory when shopping at an apothecary. Laws of physics are nullified. Matter is anthropomorphic, a window heals itself, a door attacks, rooms shrink.

Zu Beginn der Hochzeit: "Plötzlich war ein Mißklang zu hören, denn der Erste Kapellmeister war zu nahe an den Rand der Empore getreten und ins Leere gestürzt. Sogleich übernahm der zweite Kapellmeister die Leitung des Orchesters. Als der Erste Kapellmeister auf den Steinboden prallte, spielten die Musiker einen lauten Tusch [...]". Die Empore ist 100 Meter über dem Boden. Die Hochzeit geht weiter wie geplant. Am Ende verweigert der Küster dem Orchester das Geld für den Dirigenten, weil er vor der Hochzeit schon verstorben war.
