Everyone wants a man written by a woman until Mary Gaitskill enters the chat.

At first I was disturbed at how real her characters were, especially the first few stories from perspective of abusive men. Gaitskill’s writing felt like recalling a memory that would horrify others but feels normal to you. The violence and abuse is not dramatic, it just is in this book.
