When you long to climb into the pages of the book and join an Inklings-meeting, the artist dies something right (including pointing out the old fashioned ideas of real friendship only being possible between members of one gender, btw).

After a bit of a heavy start with the origins of myth and a pleasently written but text-focused account of childhood and youth of the two authors, the chapter of WWI really plays to the strength of a graphic novel, bringing the terror to life.

At the moment it's a heavy infodump but the style is charming. I like the concept of jumping through "portals" to dive deeper in some literary theories. But it would have been no trouble to add two scentences about other traditions not using the "heroe's journey", when you are at it.
