The author has a curious, bemused world view she shares well. She’s on love with octopus 🐙 which is bittersweet. The candle that burns brightest burns briefest.

She has a great deal of difficulty learning to scuba dive. Persistent ear issues she attempts to mitigate with Afrin, a potentially dangerous and/or effective work around. Made me remember how foreign it is to learn and how easy it is to go wrong.

An excellent read and much of it set in the small but sincere Boston Aquarium. With significant discoveries from WHOI Woods Hole, MA.

Octopus see in one wavelength, so colorblind, with their eyes. And Woods Hole researchers have found cephalopods have genes in their skin typical to the retina suggesting they see with their skin. Which would be consistent with their remarkable ability to match color and texture backgrounds in real time.

Scientists estimate an octopus can resist being forcibly removed by a force any less than 100 times its weight.

Interesting look at a very very distant cousin. Amazing both how different and how similar we are.
