Jay's thought many things of Mitt Gardiner. Weak was never one of them. But is it not true? All those scars. Those old wounds. The aging body. The cancer. Mitt was weak, had been for a time now. Meanwhile at the Tarshish place, Jay only grew stronger, more solidly his own. But at what cost?'

I'm trying to read while waiting for physical therapy and it's getting too intense.

I'm finding I have to be careful and attentive with this character voice and narration. All his vehemence and damaged fury towards his father in those first few chapters might not have been completely deserved. But we'll see as this continues. Love the prose though, it's voice like poetry painting a tragic picture of this kid and his emotional trauma.
