I think I need a bit of a break from this book... it started so strong but for some reason I'm just not engaged. The last 100+ pages have been a bit of a slog... I love Amy Dorrit but don't really care for any other character... well not that I don't care but I'm just not feeling that connection that keeps me turning the pages.

Arthur and Amy are such great characters! I’ve had varied experiences with Dickens’ novels (still have a few more to read), and wouldn’t consider him an all-time favourite writer, but that could change if I end up loving this as much as I adored Dombey and Son!!

I'm so sad... I've felt this way with the majority of the Dickens I've read except Dombey and Son... but who knows maybe the rest of the book will redeem itself. I just struggle to connect to Dickens' style... I much prefer Gaskell and Trollope.

Dina This one is slow at times. It picks up towards the end, but I totally get not being invested in these characters.

Dina If you haven't read it yet, try David Copperfield.

Miriam Simut I enjoyed David Copperfield overall but didn’t love it 🙈 My favourites are A Christmas Carol, Dombey and Son, and Oliver Twist. I still have to read Great Expectations, A Tale of Two Cities, and Our Mutual Friend.
