god the goblins eating humans and keeping them as livestock is so gross

we know from Blacktongue Thief that she loses 2 of her brothers in the war, and ughhh I just know it’s gonna be Pol and Amiel, not stupid fucking Migaed

he does a great job of making the goblins actually scary and viscerally unsettling, with their genetically bred human farms. the description of the ship’s sail mosaic made of human skins actually kind of put me off my meaty stew lunch as I was eating it, which doesn’t often happen to me. impressive

it’s so much flatter and drier and more straightforward in narration than blacktongue thief. but it’s written after so he definitely has the skills to write more engagingly, but it’s a conscious choice due to galva’s style of speaking compared to kinch? gonna take some getting used to. also the imagery of human towns kept as human meat farms is chilling, the cutting of the tendon is brutallll.

fascinating, this is my 3rd christopher buehlman book and each one has such a different tone, from the ominous horror, to the witty mischievous, and now a grim battle
