In chpt. 44 (72%) the the two main protagonists suddenly realize they are the woman missing for 7 yrs and the guy sent to look for her 2 yrs ago. Up until this point the story was pretty good. A mystery set somewhere in the boonies in NorCal. But this idiotic turn of events goes way beyond my ability to suspend disbelief. Not going to finish this book.

Pretty good story about a strange sect/community sequestered deep in some forest in NorCal, who believe in a sort of zoonosis - except that the illness is transferred to humans from the trees surrounding their compound instead of from animals.
