I wish I could talk about this with someone and not a 400 word count limit 😭😭

LOVE hearing about the goddess Isis and all of her forms. Powerful and honored ; a mother, a goddess, a force of life and also destruction. It was thru these forms that women found power and meaning.

The men also revered these forms and goddesses

The bit about the land being the woman’s realm is alright; it’s a mystical thing, as it’s talked about here, being a part of the land.

Still othering though, and we can see how stories perpetuate the mythical woman as a womb and mother instead of a fully realized human person.

Also Beauvoir was so well researched. She understands physiology and biological processes better than most people I’ve ever talked to!

And how these biological processes and physiology relate to social subjugation and inequality. How woman is seen as the other, even from herself. How our bodies are a source of constant pressure, change, and distress.

Beauvoir just affirming my belief that being born into this female form, my mind and my body are constantly in battle with one another. Different from how any other species is; as humans we can actively think about our roles and desires and how we’re subjugated.

Some of the points she’s making are not current views, but a lot of the biological things she’s talking about are correct. Menstruation is HARD YO

Idk what page I’m actually on bc I’m using the audio book (NEW!!) but so far I’m loving this text.

The ways in which Beauvoir compares Woman’s experience with that of man is … fascinating. How Aristotle considered women lacking; how men forget that they too are ruled by nature.

Excited to get into this. Feminist philosophy. “What is a woman?”
