Already from the onset I can tell this is an interesting story. Already Kafka paints a picture of the failing criminal justice institution. The beginning evokes in K. Josef a sense of confusion that is meant to contradictory nature of justice and how it is often that people are wrongly accused and unaware that their actions are constantly being scrutinized.

Getting interesting and diving into the themes of societal norms. The bigger theme of this book and Kafka’a works in general seems to be that of society’s expectations thrust upon us and how nonconformance to those standards is seen as incomprehensible.
