Finally in the home stretch now (thank God). I will say that it's at least kind of interesting that Washington's fellow Founding Fathers all grew to resent him by the end of his presidency. And that he was basically forced into the presidency at all. He may have been our first president, but he was far from our best.

I keep thinking: it's not a BAD biography. It takes a little bit of time for me to settle into every time I pick it up. But the use of direct quotes from Washington & co. - usually a welcome aspect of non-fiction books - kinda takes me out of it. The old language is tricky to follow, and the quotes are almost constant. Also, think I would've preferred a more narrative biography; this one is too much of a fact dump.

Yeah, I'll stick with this book. I think I just got a little lost on the French & Indian War stuff. It wasn't explained super well, but made more sense on a reread. This isn't a "read at 2am to make me sleepy" sort of book. It requires a bit more focus and energy. (Which I had while reading tonight, I'm just updating later because I had other things to do.) Also, it's short, so it shouldn't take long to finish.

I loved the introduction and prelude stuff from this book, but somehow, the chapters feel really hard for me to get into. Like as if there's something I missed in the first chapter that has me already feeling behind and lost on who people are and stuff. I thought this would be a good, approachable Washington biography, but maybe it's too light on details? I'll give it till Part 2 or so to see if I wanna DNF.

Reading for the America 250 celebration. Obviously it peaked my interest in revolutionary history, so why not start with a biography about the man who started it all and the father of our country. I think I may have added other Washington biographies to my TBR, but this seemed the most palatable. And it's written by a woman, which is apparently a rarity with GW biographies. Go off queen.
