I haven’t done this book justice. I started it during our beach vacation, and— for me, at least— this isn’t a “beach read.” It’s not the type of read you can keep putting down and picking up…the themes are deep; the characters complex. I like it, but the environment I’m in right now…lovely though it may be…isn’t supporting it. I’m going to set it aside and start it again soon.

Not sure why I'm having such a hard time getting into this, which i consider another of 2026's "It" books, along with Yesteryear, Mad Mabel, and others...i think one factor is I bought the audiobook to keep me company while making a blanket. While Ann Patchett is a gifted writer, narration is not her forte. I'm pining for Meryl Streep's voice-- she was WONDERFUL in Tom Lake. I don't want to give up!
