There are times you can tell the author is a straight white man. This book offers many such moments. Technocratic bs mixed with a dig at « leftist snowflakes » being the reason earth became uninhabitable - Elon Musk knockoff. Manchild protagonist, and misogynistic (lack of) characterisation for Ellie. Boo tomato tomato.

I’d like to add I enjoyed the expansive world building and actually don’t find it tedious in most cases but the political undertones and terrible main characters are making this unbearable. I don’t give one flying fuck what Finn wants, Ellie is just present as a side chick for him to kiss & mansplain to, Josias is a technocratic conservative who arguably engages in borderline p*dophilia by marrying Finns twin sister while calling Finn himself « boy » and « son ». She is centuries younger than him. Josias is Ellie’s grandfather. Otylia is 24. My god. The only characters I’m interested in are Helena and Thyra. Doesn’t bode well for a book touching 1k pages.
