Compelling reading. Despite cautionary pre-colonial histories and even contemporary reports from explorers such as Oxley, Cunningham and Lockyer, early Brisbane was built squarely on a floodplain. I am baffled by the willingness to try to control a river as temperamental as Brisbane’s.
