Also I like that she makes peace with Frannie. It seems like a sign of maturity. Their philosophies and life paths diverge but they seem to respect and be happy for each other, even though their friendship is gone.

I just realized I think he’s been doing this the whole time. And she just noticed it too. He thinks his “good taste” is impressive - he tries to cultivate his own taste in Waldo.

Now that they are “together” they will hate each other. She more so, and entirely justifiably. She will come to her senses and be disgusted by this middle-aged freak.

In Mcurdy’s memoir her first long term relationship was with a taken guy. He broke up with his girlfriend of 5+ years to be with this her (an 18 year old). I think this might be inspired by that. Also, I saw an interview with JM where she says she probably buys at least 1 item of clothing a week - asking her therapist if it’s a bad CopingMech but the therapist said it’s ok because it’s within her means.

Good god I am depressed and impressed. Consumerism as a coping mechanism. She starts writing because of her fixation with the teacher. She works in a writing assignment and then chooses not to order the random bullshit she’d planned to. I think all the hyper accurate descriptions of her YouTube and online shopping habits will make this book dated fast but it works for right now.
